1. Insurance and Liability

1.1 Basic Insurance (included)

All rentals include third-party liability insurance, as required by Portuguese law.

This insurance does not cover, namely:

• damage to the rented vehicle;
• interior damage;
• tires, rims, and windows;
• incorrect fuel refueling;
• loss or damage of keys;
• damage resulting from negligence or improper use.

1.2 Premium Insurance (optional)

The customer may purchase Premium Insurance, which provides a €0 deposit in case of an accident.

However, in situations involving negligence, interior or underbody damage, wrong fuel refueling, loss of keys or documents, among others, the customer will be liable for payment.

1.3 Tire and Glass Insurance (optional)

The customer may purchase tire and glass insurance and will be exempt from any cost in the event of damage to these components.

1.4 Deductible

The deductible corresponds to the maximum amount for which the customer is responsible in the event of damage or accident, even when insurance coverage exists, whenever the driver is at fault.

2. Deposit

• A deposit may be required depending on the type of insurance contracted;
• The amount and method of the deposit are informed at the time of booking;
• The deposit is blocked on the main driver’s bank card and released after the vehicle is returned, provided there are no damages or outstanding charges.

3. Authorized Drivers

The main driver must:

• meet the minimum age required for the vehicle category;
• hold a valid driving license for at least 1 year;
• be identified in the rental agreement.

Additional drivers:

• may be included at an additional cost;
• must meet the same requirements.

4. Young Driver

Drivers aged between 21 and 25 years may be subject to an additional daily fee, indicated at the time of booking.

5. Vehicle Use

The vehicle must be used:

• prudently and responsibly;
• exclusively on officially existing and passable roads;
• in compliance with the Portuguese Highway Code.

It is prohibited to:

• use the vehicle off recognized roads;
• use the vehicle for illegal purposes, competitions, or unauthorized transport;
• drive under the influence of alcohol or prohibited substances.

Failure to comply with these rules may result in loss of insurance coverage.

6. Pickup and Return

• The pickup and return location, date, and time are those indicated in the booking;
• Airport services or services outside normal business hours may incur additional costs, which will be communicated in advance.

7. Fuel

The vehicle must be returned:

• with the same fuel level as at the time of delivery.

Missing fuel or incorrect refueling will be charged, including service costs.

8. Cleaning and Vehicle Condition

The vehicle must be returned in similar condition to that at delivery, except for normal wear and tear.

If the vehicle is returned with:

• excessive dirt;
• very dirty interior;
• animal hair, sand, or mud,

a special cleaning fee may be applied.

9. Smoking

Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the vehicle.

Detection of smoke odors or residues will result in a professional cleaning fee.

10. Accidents, Breakdowns, and Assistance

In the event of an accident or breakdown, the customer must:

1. Immediately contact the company or the competent authorities;
2. Complete the Accident Report (Declaration of Amicable Accident), when applicable;
3. Not abandon the vehicle without authorization.

Failure to follow these procedures may result in refusal of insurance activation.

11. Fines and Infractions

The customer is responsible for all fines, penalties, or infractions incurred during the rental period.

The company may charge an administrative fee for handling the respective notifications.

12. Reservation Cancellation

Cancellations are subject to the policy indicated at the time of booking.

Late cancellations or no-shows may result in charges.

13. Required Documents

To collect the vehicle, the customer must present:

• a valid driving license (original);
• an identification document or passport.

14. Final Provisions

• These Terms and Conditions apply to all rentals carried out by Ondas Rent a Car Madeira;
• Specific conditions for certain vehicles (e.g., Suzuki Jimny, camping vehicles, special insurance) may be governed by additional terms.
